Journal Entry 1:
I'll tell you who I am before I move on. My name is Blaîse Tavernier and I'm a blacksmith. I'm 42, look like your regular blacksmith around town, yet my hands move fast and I work at the same speed. I'm also one of the taller people in the town, but I feel myself shrink when the king comes on through. Here in Versailles, I work for the king as doing whatever he asks me to do. His soldiers usually come around to give me an order from the king, telling what things I have to make today for him. He gives me twice the usual payment when it comes from him as I always keep my prices if it's the same thing, but it changes depending on the size. I'm writing this diary entry and starting five days ago for now. Later, I'll talk about it on that exact day.
I woke up and went to my smithy at 4 a.m. in the morning. At around noon, a whole army garrison, about 50 soldiers, approached my shop. I was startled. I hurried over to find what they needed. They told me to make some armor made out of steel and finish it by tomorrow at around 10 p.m. I nodded and asked if they wanted steel plates or steel rings like plate armor or chain-mail. They said that they wanted the steel plates. I nodded once again and turned back to go work.
At first light, I finished the armor. I went to go get some supplies like iron, steel, gold, and coal. I went back to the smithy and helped customers and around 10 p.m., the soldiers came for their armor. I gave it to them, they thanked me, paid me, and left. Until next time! -Bla(i)se Tavernier
Journal Entry 2:
So, yesterday, I had this awesome person ask me for a sword, but not just any sword. He wanted one out of steel with a handle encrusted with jewels and gold lined around the jewels. I gave it to him and he paid me so many francs, I could buy myself enough diamonds to make a sword! Sorry, right. Matter at hand.
I woke up, and went to my smithy like usual, but I found a customer that I always see for art materials. His name was Maximillian Françiose and I became a Jacobin with him. He is an artist, second estate, that makes great paintings and sells them to the king. He came to my shop two days ago for a sturdy paintbrush made with a steel handle and an iron pot for ink. He asked me to come see this awesome new "clique". I went, found out it was the Jacobin group, and joined. Hopefully, Louis XVI will succumb to pressure from this group soon. I am new to this group, but I see it needs to be bigger. I shall talk to my fellow third-estate people. We will remove Louis XVI soon. A while later, I go back to my lovely home.
Have you met my wife yet? Well, you see, usually, my father picks my wife, but this time, I chose and she's a real beauty, too! She's lovable, huggable, and fun to hang around with. Sometimes, I have a party just to see how many people ogle at her and give me evil looks. So, why am I bringing this up now? Well, three things actually. One, I forgot to tell you earlier, two, it fits perfectly to what I'm going to tell you soon, and three, she's happy and so am I at what's happening! She's pregnant! She says she's expecting a girl, but, you never know, it could be a boy. Until next time! -Bla(i)se Tavernier
Journal Entry 3:
Hi, Bla(i)se Tavernier here. Sorry, I haven't said anything for the past few days, but I've been celebrating. I have many reasons to be celebrating, now that I think about it. First of all, the pregnancy's coming along fine and the second thing is, the revolution's done! After the revolution ended with Louis XVI getting beheaded, or killed with a guilottine, the Jacobin leaders tried to make sort of the chaos, but soon, a new leader came. This leader was called Napoleon Bonaparte. He made a national banking system, changed tax collection methods, dismissed corrupt officials, and reduced the Church's power in national affairs. Through all this, he was given much support and I too support him as much as the Church and others like me did. I offered him my services as a blacksmith, and he agreed to do the same thing that Louis XVI had done with me, saying that I was needed for his upcoming plans. I didn't take it all that seriously. He tried to take the sugar-producing country Saint Dominigue, but suffered heavy losses, and as a way to rebuild, sold a big piece of land for a lot of money. Some countries decided to attack back as he tried to take control over most of Europe, but he crushed their forces. Anyways, I've just finished an order from him, and you know what? He asked for armor made out of diamond! Of course, it had to have a steel plating on the inside, but really! Diamond! That is really expensive! I presented my problem to him and he gave me money. I used that to buy around 100 kilos of diamonds. I went to my workshop, made a diamond hammer, and worked at that armor. At around 11 p.m., I finished enough armor for about 100 soldiers. I worked on some of the requests that the people want. Now, I'm going to go to sleep. Until next time! -Bla(i)se Tavernier
